Tunisia coach Sami Trabelsi has rued missed chances after his country’s 1-1 draw with Togo saw them crash out of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The result means Tunisia finished third in Group D on goal difference, with the Ivory Coast and Togo progressing to the quarter-finals, and Trabelsi said his team failed to make the most of their opportunities.

“I think we played the game we needed to,” Trabelsi said.

“We had to control the ball, we tried to used the wings. We knew our opponent was strong, especially in defence. So we tried to play out wide. We just missed too many chances.

“I think that our second game was not good. We made a lot of mistakes even if we improved for the second half. For this game today was quite balanced.

“We gave all we had in the second half. We tried to control the ball. Togo had a few dangerous counter-attacks. We believed until the very end but it did not work out for us.”

The 44-year-old said he would return home to contemplate his next move.

“Am I satisfied? Not really, because we did not qualify,” he said.

“In regards to my future, I will see. I’m going back to Tunis and then I’ll see what happens.”
